Area housing prices could fall: Analysis puts Greater Boston at top of drop list - 2005-03-21
The Greater Boston housing market has climbed to the top of a list of major metropolitan regions where home prices are most likely to fall during the next two years, according to a recent analysis by a California-based mortgage insurance company.

The Boston area edged out San Jose for that distinction, according to the PMI Mortgage Insurance Co.'s latest ‘‘risk index.'' Boston had been in second place behind the San Jose metropolitan area in PMI Mortgage's fall survey.

One side effect of the exploding market for second homes has been a flood of houses on the rental market, real estate agents say. ecause real estate prices are rising faster than rents, owners are having a harder time paying their mortgage with rental income, said Kincaid, the Palm Springs broker.
