U.S. mortgage applications decrease last week-MBA - 2005-03-09
Applications for U.S. home mortgages dropped slightly last week as a drop in home refinancing activity for the second straight week offset an increase in purchasing, an industry group said on Wednesday.

The Mortgage Bankers Association said its seasonally adjusted index of mortgage application activity declined by 0.7 percent to 704.8 in the week ended March 4, even as interest rates eased, after dropping 2.4 percent the week before.

Crown asks for 6½ to seven-year sentence in Eron Mortgage collapse scandal - 2005-03-09
The Crown wants the former president of Eron Mortgage Corp. to serve 6½ to seven years in prison for his participation in the collapse of the company.

Prosecutor David Jardine told a B.C. Supreme Court sentencing hearing on Monday that large-scale frauds generally call for a five to seven-year prison term, but aggravating factors in Brian Slobogian's case should put the sentence at the upper end of that range.
