Loan Broker Is Convicted in Real Estate Scam - 2006-01-11
A Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., mortgage broker and appraiser was convicted Tuesday in a federal court in Santa Ana of running a real estate flipping scheme that cheated mortgage lenders of $6 million. James Davis Bennett, 52, convicted on 11 counts, could face a life sentence for financial crimes that include bank and wire fraud.

Treasury's Snow says U.S. economy growing well - 2006-01-11
The U.S. economy will expand by approximately 3.5 percent this year as the recovery continues and grows declared U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow on Wednesday. He said inflation was also under control. This is reflected by low historic long-term interest rates.
