Mortgage and refinance mortgage rates dip; 30-year 6.15% - 2006-01-12
Mortgage and refinance mortgage rates nudged down for the week ending Thursday, Freddie Mac declared. Benign inflation results helped keep interest rates under control. The national average rate on the benchmark 30-year mortgage decreased to 6.15% from 6.21% a week earlier.

Fannie CEO warns against mortgage deduction change - 2006-01-12
Fannie Mae's chief executive on Thursday declared that the housing market was cooling down and urged Congress to maintain the mortgage interest deduction in the U.S. tax code. He deems it unwise to play with the affordability and argues it is the foundation of the American dream.
