Lawmakers take aim at mortgage fraud - 2006-01-13
In a greater attempt to combat mortgage fraud, state lawmakers introduced a bill Thursday targeting so-called "mortgage rescuers"--con artists who promise to bail out cash-strapped families but usually end up taking title to their homes instead. Legitimate financial counselors can often help families from falling into foreclosure. Low-income neighborhoods are more vulnerable with swindlers promising to "Save your home!"

Refinance Mortgage: The holiday debt trap - 2006-01-13
After each holiday season, there is a slew of easy-credit offers. This year the financial situation is more challenging for those with debt due to higher rates on home loans and rising energy costs. Some loan providers are offering refinance mortgage deals to stretch out mortgage payments.
