Lawmakers take aim at mortgage fraud - 2006-01-13
In a greater attempt to combat mortgage fraud, state lawmakers introduced a bill Thursday targeting so-called "mortgage rescuers"--con artists who promise to bail out cash-strapped families but usually end up taking title to their homes instead. Legitimate financial counselors can often help families from falling into foreclosure. Low-income neighborhoods are more vulnerable with swindlers promising to "Save your home!"
