U.S. economy slows to below trend - 2006-01-16
The U.S. economy expanded at the slowest pace in almost three years in the just-concluded fourth quarter, economists currently estimate. Led by what could be the most tepid consumer spending since 1991, the economy likely expanded at about a 2.7% annual pace in the quarter after 11 consecutive quarters of growth above 3%, economists say.
