U.S. economy grows at slowest pace in 3 years - 2006-01-27
The economy expanded at only a 1.1 percent annual rate during the fourth quarter of last year. This is the slowest pace in three years due in part to belt-tightening by consumers dealing with spiraling energy costs. Despite the weak showing from October through December, the economy registered decent overall growth of 3.5 percent for all of 2005.
