State leaders declare that a settlement with Ameriquest Mortgage is an efficient solution that guarantees thousands of Washington homeowners will obtain some restitution money. Washington and six other states investigated whether the company incorporated unfair tactics to boost home loans and refinance mortgage loans beyond what consumers could afford.

Housing slowdown squeezes borrowers - 2006-01-30
The number of foreclosure notices initiated against Massachusetts homeowners last year attained their highest level since the housing bust of the early 1990s, as homeowners fell behind on their mortgages and lenders initiated the process of taking back the properties. Paradoxically, the sudden stop to sharply rising home prices put a squeeze on many borrowers, analysts declared.
