More Homeowners Going Into Default - 2006-10-19
The number of Californians who are significantly late on their mortgage payments and at risk of losing their homes to foreclosure more than doubled in the three months finishing Sept. 30, providing the latest hint of trouble in the housing market, figures released Wednesday indicate. Lenders sent out 26,705 default notices during the July-to-September period, higher than the 12,606 during the same quarter in 2005.

Refinance mortgage rates stabilize ahead of Fed meeting - 2006-10-19
Refinance mortgage rates held course after last week's climb, according to a survey released Thursday by Freddie Mac. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.36 percent for the week ending Oct. 19, a bit lower than the previous week's 6.37 percent. The 15-year FRM averaged 6.06 percent this week, staying the same from last week. A year ago, it averaged 5.65 percent.
