Mortgage rates leap higher - 2006-02-02
Mortgage rates surged last week, pushed higher by evidence of rising inflation, lifting rates on the 30-year loan to six-week highs. The average rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages climbed to 6.23 percent from 6.12 percent in the prior week, a Freddie Mac survey revealed.

American workers were the least productive in over five years last quarter and costs of labor surged, adding to worries that rising wages may spark faster inflation.
Lower productivity and higher labor costs point to a robust job market that will keep the Federal Reserve leaning toward higher interest rates.
