Housing market is going strong - 2006-02-22
Houston home sales reached a high point in January as some markets across the country are cooling down. Residential property sales for the month, including single-family homes, condominiums, townhomes and some new properties, touched 4,584. Real estate agents credited the increase to buyers being transferred here from other cities, locals acquiring properties and hurricane evacuees from New Orleans making Houston their permanent home.

U.S. mortgage rates same Tuesday - 2006-02-22
The average rate on a 30-year U.S. mortgage with no upfront points was the same on Tuesday at 6-3/8 percent. If the mortgage market on Wednesday continues in its current direction, rates could be higher.
The 30-year mortgage rate with one upfront point was the same at 6-1/8 percent.
