Healthy growth in mortgage lending - 2006-02-28
Mortgage lending continued to expand at a healthy rate last month with the Central Bank revealing a jump in borrowing of €1.5bn – the strongest January on record.
Despite an expected decrease in the New Year, the annual rate of growth climbed to a new height of 28.8% in the first few weeks of 2006. This compared with 28.5% in December.

Housing frenzy fades as US confidence dips - 2006-02-28
Sales of existing US homes have dropped to their slowest pace in almost two years, adding to evidence that the housing market is losing steam. The fall in the resale of homes by 2.8 per cent in January, to 6.56m units annualised, was the fifth consecutive monthly drop. The decline in the number of flats sold was especially sharp, decreasing 10 per cent to 791,000 units.
