Senate moves to keep real-estate industry competitive - 2007-01-30
Pat Vredevoogd Combs, president of the National Association of Realtors, praised Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D- N.Y.) and Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) for proposing legislation Friday that the association believes would ensure the nation’s real estate industry stays competitive. Fremont Severs Ties With 8,000 Mortgage Brokers - 2007-01-30
Nonprime lender Fremont Investment and Loan, a unit of Fremont General Corp., declared that it was cutting ties with 8,000 mortgage brokers who it says were mainly responsible for a surge in early payment defaults last year. The Santa Monica, Calif.-based wholesale lender’s early payment defaults increased sixfold between 2005 and the middle of last year. Fremont originated $33 billion in mortgages last year.
