Giant U.S. economy swallows 'small' wars - 2007-02-23
Three hundred million dollars a day seems like quite a bit of money. But in terms of economic impact, Iraq is a small war. Military spending boosts profits; pulls employees out of jobs and into uniforms, providing paychecks for thousands of other workers; pours money into research; and puts the nation deeper into debt.
The human costs are beyond calculation. But for the overall U.S. economy, the war has been something of a sideshow.
