U.S. Economy: Services Expand Less Than Forecast - 2007-03-05 Service industries in the U.S. expanded last month at the slowest pace in close to four years, suggesting the economic slowdown may be spreading beyond housing and manufacturing. The Institute for Supply Management's index of non-manufacturing businesses, which compromise up to 90 percent of the economy, fell to a lower-than-forecast 54.3 after a January level of 59. Newspaper's real-estate advertising bubble to burst - 2007-03-05 For all publishers’ slew of problems, real-estate advertising has been a source of uninterrupted growth since the mid-1990s, as a combination of affordable interest rates and baby-boomer disposable income led to an incredible housing boom. The cooling of that boom during the past two years hasn’t slowed newspaper ad sales.
